Summer has been and gone, we’ve been working hard on putting things together for Dracula and the process of gearing up for Connections 500 next year and now rehearsals are in full swing with lots of excitement, special effects and smoke!
The only thing not raring to go is an audience, and that’s where you come in. For the first time we at HYT are delighted to announce we’ll be offering people the chance to purchase their tickets online. All you need to do is click on link on the menu bar and away you go!
Tickets go on sale on Tuesday the 15th of September at 6:30 PM so start booking and we’ll see you in December! Sleep well…
We are delighted to announce that we are going to be a part of the National Theatres “Connections 500” to celebrate the 21st birthday of the Connections program. Every year the National Theatre invite a number of youth theatre groups across the country to perform a specially commissioned play written to inspire and challenge young performers.
Back in 2011 we performed Dirty, Dirty Princess a play that had been written for Connections and so we’re enjoying going through the scripts of potential productions ready to make our selection for our first show in 2016. In September we’ll be confirming the play we’ll be performing and work will begin with our leaders being given the opportunity to attend directors workshops with the writer and team at the National Theatre.
It is a great opportunity for our young members to be involved in such a prestigious endeavour and we can’t wait to share more information with you as the project develops.
Our Summer showcase is done and was well received. As always thank you everyone for coming along and supporting us. Now we’re moving straight into our next production. After some auditions and difficult decisions a cast is in place to take us forward as we bring Bram Stokers classic gothic novel to the stage.
With the Summer holidays upon us, our members will be working on their lines and developing their roles ready to perform in December. We also have some very exciting news to come up as well so even though it’s a “break” we’re sure to be very busy over the coming weeks!
With our performance of “The Mad Hatters Tea Party” at the Holiday Inn now been and gone we are preparing for the run towards our Summer holiday. Rehearsals are ongoing of an episode of Fawlty Towers and Graeme Hammond is putting together a piece of workshop theatre and they will be performed in-house before we break up.
Following that we’ll be holding workshops and auditions ahead of our winter production “Dracula” which will be directed by Ray Livermore and to performed in December. So between rehearsals for those, audition preparation and our group trips to see Shakespeare at the George and their production of “The Merry Wives of Windsor” and Tolethorpe for “Romeo and Juliet” we’ve got a busy few weeks ahead!
We are just under a month away from our next production, The Mad Hatters Tea Party. We’re looking forward to putting on a performance in the different surroundings of the Holiday Inn at Huntingdon Racecourse on Saturday the 9th May.
Directed by Graeme Hammond we’re going to be bringing the characters of Lewis Carrolls vivid imagination to life against the backdrop of one of his most famous scenes. Tickets are available from Huntingdon Town Hall, so give Marilyn a call on 01480 411883, it’s odds on you’ll have a good time!
So we come to the end of another successful production with a sold out run at Huntingdon Town Hall. We thank everyone for their support over the last week especially Doug McIlwain who handled most of the organisation of the event and his team who cared for our audiences.
Still, there is no rest for the wicked (witches or otherwise) and we move straight into our next production which is a performance of “The Mad Hatters Tea Party” which we will put on at the Holiday Inn, Huntingdon Racecourse on Saturday the 9th May. It is a one time only production so don’t miss out! For tickets visit Marilyn in Huntingdon Town Hall and she will make sure you’re there!
Following our notice a few days ago that ticket sales were going well for this months production we are delighted to announce that we have sold out of tickets for the production. We are pleased with the reception and are sure that we will put on a great show introducting people to these events that were national news back in the late 16th century and a big part in the rise of “witchmania” that would soon sweep the country.
As we have sold out we want to give people every chance to see the show should the opportunity arise and and as a result Marilyn at Huntingdon Town Hall is compiling a waiting list. Contact her and should any tickets be returned then she will contact you and find room in Court One for you to see the show. Good luck, and we hope to see you at future productions!
We’re coming to the end of February and are now just two weeks away from our first production of the year. The Witches of Warboys is in conjunction with the Mayor of Huntingdons charities as last years court reenactment was and has been selling wonderfully. HYT have nearly sold our allocation of tickets with only a few available for Thursday and Saturday as of the time of writing. We have already sold out for Friday.
Please make sure you do not miss out on this theatrical performance by getting your tickets as soon as possible as it is looking like we will again be selling out due to the restricted space the court rooms allow us to fit in attendance.
To get your tickets please contact Marilyn at the Huntingdon Town Hall by calling 01480 411883 or by going in direct. She will help you out and we’ll see you in court on the 12th, 13th or 14th of March!
Last weekend we were proud to be able to celebrate a big landmark in our history. Our 18th Birthday! When we launched, who knew how long it would last but when the doors opened and around 80 young adults came in the group got off the ground and has grown both in name and reputation as well as total membership of over 300 people!
Last weekend we invited people from across the years to come back to us and despite members currently living all over the world we were happy to welcome them back, including three founder members who were shocked to find themselves on the wall of honour and looking back at the photographs of themselves taken on that first meeting!
We thank everyone who came back to join us for the evening, as well as those who couldn’t make it but were with us in spirit and sent us well wishes. We wouldn’t have reached this part of our history without all of you and the memories we all have and share of our times with Huntingdon Youth Theatre.
Thank you for everything and while our current group are working hard on our March and May productions, we look forward to future reunions and building more of those memories in the years to follow!
First of all we’d love to wish everyone a happy, prosperous and exciting new year and thank everyone again for all your support in 2014.
Our year of entertainment starts early this year, as this month we will be celebrating our 18th birthday with a big party and invites have gone out to members and friends of HYT who have played a part in our history to join us. Obviously it’s hard for us to make direct contact with everyone with members moving all over the country – and abroad! – so we hope people are able to spread the word to their old friends. Get in touch with us and let us know if you’re able to make it. Best way to do so is to contact us via our Facebook page, replying to this post or contacting us via one of the methods listed elsewhere on the website. We’re sure this will be a wonderful way to start the year and prepare for the next 18!
Our first production this year is going to be “The Witches of Warboys”, we’ll be returning to Huntingdon Town Hall and court room to recreate the events leading to the trial and this court case that shook 16th century England. Last year our recreation of the Trial of Joshua Slade was a success and we hope to repeat that this year with another slice of local history bought to life for our modern audiences. The production will be in March so watch this space for ticket details.
Our winter production will be Dracula, our final production will be bringing a version of Bram Stokers classic to life with humour and horror in equal measure. Follow Van Helsing, Mina, and Harker as they pursue the Transylvanian Terror across Europe and to the final showdown in the Carpathians for this Gothic classic.
Of course, that won’t be all. We’ll continue to put on various one act productions and workshop pieces so watch this space – and follow us on Facebook – to keep up to date with all our events on this big year!
