Joining

Huntingdon Youth Theatre are always open for new members!

If you, or somebody you know is secondary school aged and has any interest in drama then we’re always happy to welcome them in to the group. It doesn’t matter if you’ve done any acting before as we welcome people of all levels of experience and ability and are about trying to help young adults develop their skills and confidence through workshops and performing pieces of theatre.

Over the years since our founding we’ve performed many different types of production, from gothic horror and period dramas through to musicals and farce. We’ve had the opportunities to perform overseas and with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as allowing our members to write and direct their own pieces of theatre and get involved in any way they want from the technical side to costume design. Anything you want to try, our team of leaders always try to support you and encourage you to try new things.

    1. Hi Christina,

First of all thank you for getting in touch with us. It is never too late to get involved in the theatre and it’s good to see anyone wanting to get involved. Unfortunately at 23 you’re just a little too old to join us for acting but we’re always happy to welcome new hands who want to try the backstage elements such as costumes, set design and prop/set construction. Regarding getting on stage there is a good active scene in and around Huntingdon with lots of groups putting on productions throughout the year.

Shakespeare at the George – http://www.satg.org.uk/ – are one of the most successful groups, not just locally but in the country and have enjoyed strong links with the Royal Shakespeare Company. They put on a large production of a Shakespeare play in the courtyard of the George Hotel in Huntingdon to sold out audiences every year and this year are experimenting with a smaller production indoors, this years being a sold out run of “Blithe Spirit”. They hold public auditions in November time so you’ve got a while but it’s a great opportunity for any actor to be involved in.

Huntingdon Drama Club – http://www.huntingdondramaclub.org.uk – are a very good social group who not only put on three productions a year but also hold regular play readings and other events to encourage people to get involved in. They are very welcoming and perform a range of plays of different types so you should get to try a lot of different acting styles.

Centre Players – http://www.centreplayers.co.uk/ – The Centre Players are based in St Ives and perform a range of different styles of shows from comedies to musicals and their annual hugely successful pantomimes, many of which are nominated and win awards!

We keep in touch with the above groups the most and will regularly update people on audition dates and details on our Facebook page so will keep you posted through there on opportunities to be involved with those. We hope you are able to be involved in the theatre and enjoy every second of it. There will be times it’s hard work but it’s all worth it at the end of an enjoyable and memorable run!

  4. I’m interested in joining the Youth Theatre and would like to know how I can achieve this. I’m 16 years old and attend Longsands Academy in St. Neots. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Many thanks

    Ryan

    1. Hi Ryan,

If you are interested in joining us then we are happy for you to come and join us one Tuesday evening to take part in whatever we are working on. As we are very close to a performance though I would advise waiting until Tuesday 17th as it would be unfair for you to come along just to watch other people doing things for a couple of weeks! If you would like I can email you the details once we have finished with Witches of Warboys and you can be involved straight away in our next projects!

Thank you for getting in touch,

      Ray

    1. Hi Emma,

Our members are of secondary school age so can join us from 12 –> 18 although there’s not really an upper limit. We are always welcoming of new members and I have passed on your details to our chairman Dom Whitehead who will add it to our records and be in touch regarding her joining. Feel free to bring your daughter to a production and our leaders will be happy to talk to you and your daughter about the group.

Thank you for getting in touch!
